Abstract

This article focuses on the literary memoirs which appeared in the Czechoslovakian samizdat, analysing the factors that led to the circulation of a notable autobiographical corpus within the samizdat literature andthe historical and social value of these works. A further  analysis will point out the key role of the four volumes entitled Československý fejeton/fejtón, a collection of feuilletons written from 1975 through 1979 by those ‘prohibited writers’ who never had the possibility to publish in the official publishing houses. This genre is very similar to the French feuilleton, which had become so popular in the Czechoslovakian culture since the second half of the ‘800. Its peculiarity comes from its position on the borderline between journalism and literature. It’s important to highlight that in the samizdat literature the fejeton will gain new features, i.e. a meaningful literary value and a strong autobiographical nature.
